Turkish Airlines flight delayed or cancelled: the compensation you can get
For a flight with Turkish Airlines leaving the EU, for example from Romania, that arrives 3 hours or more late, is cancelled less than 14 days before or where you are denied boarding, you can get up to €600 per person under EU Regulation 261/2004. Turkish Airlines is based outside the EU (Türkiye), so flights leaving there follow that country's rules. It pays unless it proves extraordinary circumstances.
Checked 9 Oct
| Flight distance | Compensation per person |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | up to €250 |
| Between 1,500 and 3,500 km | up to €400 |
| Over 3,500 km | up to €600 |
A flight over 3,500 km between two EU airports falls in the middle band: up to €400. If you are offered a new flight that arrives close to the original time, the amount can be halved (article 7(2)).
Where Turkish Airlines takes claims
Turkish Airlines takes compensation claims through its own page. Claim there yourself, or let us handle it.
We found this page on Turkish Airlines's site on 17 Oct 2026. It is not yet an address we have verified.
What counts as extraordinary circumstances
Weather that makes the flight unsafe, air traffic control restrictions, security risks and strikes outside the airline, such as by air traffic controllers. A technical fault with the aircraft is usually not extraordinary (Court of Justice of the EU, case C-549/07), and a strike by the airline's own staff never is (case C-28/20). The airline has to prove the cause and that it took all reasonable measures.
What Turkish Airlines owes you while you wait
From 2 hours of delay on flights up to 1,500 km, 3 hours up to 3,500 km and 4 hours on longer ones, the airline owes you meals and drinks in proportion to the wait and two calls or emails. If the flight only leaves the next day, a hotel and transport to it too (article 9). Ask at the airline's desk; if nothing is offered, buy what is reasonable and keep the receipts.
If Turkish Airlines refuses your claim
Turkish Airlines's feedback and complaints portal, as checked on 17 Oct 2026, needs a login and shows no category for claims under the EU rules before you log in. Say in your message that you are claiming compensation under Regulation (EC) 261/2004.
A refusal is not the last word. Ask for the exact reason in writing. You can complain for free to ANPC, the body that enforces passenger rules in Romania, or to the body in the country of departure.
ANPC takes complaints through the online form on anpc.ro, in Romanian and English, or by email at secretariat@anpc.ro.

Questions
How much do I get from Turkish Airlines for a delayed flight?
For a delay of 3 hours or more on arrival, per person: up to €250 for flights up to 1,500 km, up to €400 between 1,500 and 3,500 km and up to €600 for longer flights leaving the EU.
Can I ask for money instead of a voucher?
Yes. Compensation is paid in money. You get a voucher only if you agree in writing (Regulation 261/2004, article 7(3)).
What are extraordinary circumstances?
Events outside the airline's control, such as severe weather, air traffic control restrictions or security risks. Technical problems with the aircraft usually don't count. The airline has to show the event caused the delay.
Does the airline owe me food or a hotel?
Under EU and UK rules, yes, while you wait for a delayed or cancelled flight: meals and drinks in proportion to the wait, and a hotel with transport if you are stuck overnight. That is separate from compensation.
What does FlyHandled cost?
Checking your flight is free. If we handle the claim, the fee is 25% of what the airline pays, VAT included, plus 15% only if it goes to court, and nothing if it pays nothing.
