Questions

How much compensation for a delayed or cancelled flight?

€250 up to 1,500 km, €400 from 1,500 to 3,500 km (or any longer flight inside the EU) and €600 over 3,500 km, a passenger, when you arrive 3 hours late or more, the flight is cancelled less than 14 days before or you're denied boarding, and the airline caused it.

This is owed only if the airline caused the problem: not for extraordinary circumstances such as bad weather or an air traffic control strike. It applies to flights from the EU, and into the EU on an EU airline.

When is it half? (article 7(2))

When the airline gets you there on a new flight that arrives within 2 hours (up to 1,500 km), 3 hours (1,500 to 3,500 km, or any longer flight inside the EU) or 4 hours (longer flights) of the old arrival time, it may pay half. A delay over 3,500 km of 3 to 4 hours is also paid at half.

When the airline told you in advance

With 7 to 13 days' notice and a new flight leaving at most 2 hours earlier and arriving less than 4 hours later, or less than 7 days' notice with a new flight leaving at most 1 hour earlier and arriving less than 2 hours later, nothing is owed (article 5(1)(c)).

When is nothing owed?

When you arrive less than 3 hours late, when you were told of a cancellation 14 days or more before, or when extraordinary circumstances such as bad weather or an air traffic control strike caused it. Care, a refund or a new flight can still be owed.

Is anything sent when I use the calculator?

No. It works out the distance and the amount on your device and sends nothing.
